Breath Scores are works written out for breath. They have been composed to generate a transformative experience in the viewer at the level of the individual as well as the collective, atmospheric body.
To read the scores, you need to be familiar with the Breath Alphabet.
The Breath Alphabet proposes a new language that influences the feeling and thinking body through the breath. The individual signs are an attempt to systematically represent the different variants of human breathing. Sound structures, frequency, amplitude and rhythm are inner workings and their source is your own body. Reading time is determined by the rate of breathing. Anyone can become a performer of breathing scores, as the art material is the air we all breathe.

Dobrawa Borkała’s scores are an invitation to collective performative actions involving all earthly organisms and the air permeating them (nitrogen, oxygen, argon, carbon dioxide, neon, helium, methane, krypton, hydrogen, xenon).
