Lecture of the Bydgoszcz Academy of Art
Like every field of human activity, art is governed by its own rules, both in institutional and unofficial circulation, in the artists’ studios. It can be said to be self-sufficient. Or is it? Art as such does not have the tools for full self-knowledge, and each way to better understand it is good. Art, therefore, needs psychology as well as sociology, philosophy, aesthetics… It is also needed for other reasons. Obviously, art is the effect of expression, expression results from personality, and personality from many social factors. Art is also a therapeutic and self-therapeutic tool when creativity is an artist’s way to solve or alleviate a problem he is struggling with. Art itself also has a very important social function, which is often forgotten…
