Magdalena Dworak-Mróz. Life of Things. About anthropomorphising of a work of art
During the meeting with Ernst Gombrich, we will ask if artworks come to life? Can we sense under the paint a pulse of the image, stretched muscles under the sculpture texture? Is Mona Lisa really smiling at us? And is Frida really looking at us? Do works of art have their own biographies? What do the lives of things look like, with particular reference to works of art? To what extent, if at all, can we humanise objects? Can we follow natural human inclination to give things human qualities?

Magdalena Dworak-Mróz, art historian. She specialises in 19th and 20th century painting. She’s been writing a doctoral dissertation in the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences, on the art of Henri Hayden, who was a representative of the École de Paris. She also teaches in English at the Poznań University of Art. Her interests also include issues related to the art market, art marketing, psychology of collecting, collection building, and counterfeiting.
