Bert Stern. Orginal Madman Madman
directed by: Shannah Laumeister
USA, 2011, 93′
Free admission
Sophia Loren, Liz Taylor, Shirley MacLaine, Barbra Streisand, Madonna, Scarlett Johansson, Marilyn Monroe – all of them were photographed by the famous American photographer Bert Stern. “Making love and taking pictures are very similar things when it comes to women,” says Stern, who gained fame thanks to Marlin Monroe’s so-called bed session and the “Lolita in the heart-shaped sunglasses” photo. It was used on Stanley Kubrick’s “Lolita” poster.
“Bert Stern. Oryginal Madman” is divided into parts and filled with photographs, interviews and scenes from Stern’s life, as well as with atmospheric music. Laumeister tells us the story of a man who worshipped women – his models – and, by taking them to the pedestal, created icons of style and fashion. At the same time, however, he was unable to share everyday life with them. The film presents an intimate and delicate portrait of a beloved man who had everything in his life, but who also lost everything.
