Workshop for kids aged 5–12, with caregivers.
Voices of the Cosmos is a musical and astronomical project combining art with science. It creates music using cosmic signals recorded by radio telescopes, electronic devices and acoustic instruments, also of own construction. The workshops are addressed to people interested in astronomy and sound experiments.
In the workshop programme: listening to recorded cosmic sounds – examples of signals of extraterrestrial origin, musical experiments on acoustic instruments, learning about several sound phenomena, and improvising together. The workshop will present acoustic instruments used by the authors: storm instruments (“spring tube”), an instrument using the acoustic properties of sheet metal: “steel sail” (a single-string steel sail), frame drums and gongs. Each participant of the workshop will receive a storm instrument, which will be built of components and decorated during the workshops.
The aim of the workshops is to stimulate aesthetic sensitivity, artistic imagination and creativity, to broaden forward-looking thinking through experimental and open-minded approach – these are traits that accompany the cognitive process of astronomers and researchers discovering the secrets of the Universe.
