Subject: Not only for those with a sweet tooth, or a thing about the real history of chocolate
presented by Zuzanna Jagodzińska
Chocolate is a food product which needs no introduction or advertising. It’s won big crowds of loyal fans due to its taste and beneficial effect on the human body. This popularity of cocoa-based products has been going on uninterrupted for several thousand years and is associated with the Pre-Columbian cultures of the American continent. It is this less well-known aspect of cocoa fruit seeds that will be discussed during the workshop. The participants will get acquainted with the culinary history of cocoa products in the ancient Mayan culture by, among others, joint reading of the old recipes for preparation of the precious beverage. In addition, we will explain the etymology of the words “chocolate” and “cocoa”, and study iconographic elements associated with cocoa tree. The workshop will be complemented by discussion and presentation, as well as replaying of fragments of videos on the production of the “food of the gods”. We will finish with sampling of sweets!
