Subject: Good auntie UNRRA’s Smile, or a short lecture on saving Christmas and the whole world

The December meeting at the Municipal Gallery bwa will draw on memories of the first Polish post-war Christmas Eve, when the role of Santa Claus was taken over in the collective imagination by the generous “Auntie UNRRA,” a ludic personification of the United Nations aid campaign directed at ruined countries. The spectacular humanitarian operation not only influenced the economy and the social situation in Poland, but also became a political and ideological issue, and made its mark in culture and art… The lecture will be accompanied by a presentation of unique “Made in UNRRA” memorabilia, collected by Adam Gajewski – collector and promoter of history, animator of the Municipal Cultural Centre in Bydgoszcz.
