Art at High Noon! Workshops for seniors
Subject: Herbs in Polish art and culture.
Presented by: Katarzyna Rymarz
A series of meetings devoted to art and culture in a broad sense, addressed to people aged 60+. The meetings offer discussions on contemporary art, and creative activities that develop cognitive processes, improving manual dexterity by learning different art techniques and forms of art.
For centuries, nature has influenced human life, culture and art. On the basis of selected issues and historical periods I will present examples, meaning and symbolism of herbs present in our tradition, from biblical quotations and Christian holidays, to folk culture (folk rituals), to a few examples of painting of Young Poland.
Workshop schedule
1. Herbs in the Bible, symbolism and the meaning of plants, using the example of quotations. (Presentation of selected plants using live examples.)
2. Herbs in folk culture, rituals, seasonal celebrations, with examples from applied arts (decoration, etc.).
3. Plants inspiring the Young Poland painters, with several paintings as examples; Malczewski, Mehoffer, Wyspiański, Wyczółkowski (slide show).
