On June 2nd, at 5pm, the BRDA Gallery (in the BRDA Hotel), which is under the patronage of Municipal Gallery bwa in Bydgoszcz, will host the opening of the exhibition of paintings by Aleksandra Bartkowiak “Beyond Words”.
The main inspiration for my painting is nature as a whole, which isn’t about the fragmented representation of the world, mimesis. In an analogy to the existing reality, I wanted to create a new, purely painterly world of emotions, inspired by nature, which in this case is the metaphor for my own intimate world. In this cycle, emotions play an extremely important role. Amassed, unspoken emotions which cannot be conveyed in words but only through images, blast out the canvas. Courage in undertaking radical decisions has dominated the process of creation. I wasn’t afraid to overpaint, rip off layers of paint, spill solvents, diluted paints, destroy almost finished paintings, in order to find new, deeper painterly values and authenticity.
Aleksandra Bartkowiak

Aleksandra Bartkowiak (born in 1989 in Bydgoszcz). From 2002 to 2009, she attended the Leon Wyczółkowski State High School of Fine Arts in Bydgoszcz. In the years 2007-2008, she went for a 10-month scholarship in Uruguaiana, Brazil. Graduate of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun. Got her diploma in easel painting under Prof. Piotr Klugowski, and in painting in architecture under Dr. Andrzej Kałucki. In 2014, she got her Art MA with a very good result and honours. The main inspiration for her painting is nature (as a whole, which isn’t about the fragmented representation of the world, mimesis) and her emotions. In an analogy to the existing reality, she creates a new, purely painterly world of emotions, inspired by nature, which in this case is the metaphor for her own intimate world. Constant repainting, continuous struggle with painterly matter, intentional technological mistakes, combining oil paints with water ones is a risk that she had to take in order to create an autonomous entity. In her painting, colour is not only a symbolic medium of emotions, but also the element that holds the composition together.
