“Mrówkowiec nad Balatonem” (High-rise Apartments by the Balaton) – Municipal Gallery bwa in Bydgoszcz, 24.10.19 – 15.12.2019
“Podniebniki” (Underskies) – Wozownia Art Gallery in Toruń, 22.11.2019 – 22.12.2019
Both exhibitions and the accompanying publication are an artistic reflection on the spaces of the city. The titles of the exhibitions are very important to me – both a riddle and a starting point for activating the imagination. Mrówkowiec nad Balatonem! – when I first heard about that place, I immediately smiled and thought to myself: That sounds mysterious and romantic. When preparing the exhibition, I found out that the Bydgoszcz “Balaton”, although one of the kind, isn’t the only one in Poland – there are numerous parks and ponds of that name, which shows how language is able to warm up and gild mundaneness. This mundaneness is inspiring for me in itself, but naming it in this way, it opens up spaces where we encounter something unusual and elusive. High-rises always fascinated me as the places where so many histories happen at the same time – when I was a child, I dreamt about living in a high-rise, preferably on the last floor, near the sky. With time, blocks of flats have become interesting objects for me, and I depict them using various media. Therefore, calling them “Podniebniki” (Underskies) seems to be adequate for my concept.
