Ireneusz Kopacz is the winner of the 2nd edition of the POLYGONUM (EXHIBITION OF THE ARTISTS FROM THE KUJAWSKO-POMORSKI DISTRICT, October-November 2010). The award for the winner is an individual exhibition at the Municipal Gallery bwa in Bydgoszcz, accompanied by a catalogue. At the exhibition, Ireneusz Kopacz will present his latest works. Ireneusz Kopacz finds the ingredients for his landscapes around him. It can be a piece of an old photograph, of a satellite image, a map, a city plan, a newspaper, a book, a chart. History of art, literature and music are the sources of inexhaustible inspiration for the painter. The object of the human culture which the artist notices often become an inspiration for a painting or a reason to look for another object. One find results in another, just like one event triggers another, one idea gives birth to another — the constant becoming, constant results, the rhythm of subsequent events. Each image by the artist is surprising in a different way. He composes them as a small, square (15 x 15 cm) format. Pieces of an album’s page, a book, newspaper scraps, a map with inscriptions, marked by time and man, create the landscape of dialogue. A dialogue of the past with the present, reality with abstraction, solemnity with joking, finally, of timidity with boldness. This way, the painter depicts his own, unique world, putting the reality into schemes, turning imagination into reality. He perceives the reality manipulated by man, for his sake and convenience, and maybe even perdition. Texture has always been extremely important in Ireneusz Kopacz’s art. However, in the „Collection of Moods”, it’s definitely more varied. It’s different in each and every work, its role in building the composition is different — quite often, it becomes the foundation of the composition. With the subdued colours, texture dictates rhythms and spaces, creates harmony. And the harmony of forms and colours is the most characteristic feature of his painting. (…)
