I wanted to devote the new cycle to the great creators of new worlds: Bergman, Kieślowski, Fellini, Saura etc.
From their movies I choose those frames that fit my life in a given moment, I must be moved by them, enchanted.
Painting is a kind of dialogue, it’s like connecting spiritually to the creator (director) and becoming the character created earlier by the director: it’s me who becomes the Véronique of The Double Life of Véronique; Ada from The Piano; the lonely clown Chaplin, having read his autobiography; Sayuri the geisha etc. It’s like putting on masks of various characters, where it’s no longer me, but my face hidden inside the mask becomes a new person, like in the Noh theatre.
