The exhibition “Kotcepcja – kotorysunki” (Catception – cat-drawings) consists of 32 posters made by 16 talented Polish female artists: Karolina Danek, Iza Dudzik, Anna Halarewicz, Monika Kister, Anna Kloza-Rozwadowska, Karolina Kubikowska, Ewelina Kordecka, Kamila Kozłowska, Agata Krzyżanowska, Kamila Loskot, Agnieszka Matwiejszyn, Justyna Tkocz, Iza Turska, Marianna Sztyma, Joanna Wójtowicz, Marta Zabłocka.
Each illustration shows a fluffy four-legged friend of the house – the cat. The posters are created for a nice time with our friend, for relaxation, peace or closeness. Cats are depicted alone, among other furries or their human family. They are hidden in flowers, in climbing fruit bushes, and sleeping in their favourite places – cardboard boxes or comfy beds. We can also see these stately fluffies at play, meditating, travelling with loved ones or riding a bicycle. Above all, they are fairytale-like, graceful portraits. Not only do the posters, through their graphic form, reflect the artists’ vision and skills, but they are also each artist’s personal story. They were made using a variety of techniques, such as computer graphics, collage or watercolour. We can see here a great attention to detail, a light line and energising colours. The style of each work is completely different and this is what sets them apart.
The artists have already been creating illustrations for calendars for the KOT Foundation – Cats Surrounded by Care – since 2016. The calendar is produced annually to help cats and all the authors are volunteers. At the exhibition, each artist will present her latest work for 2025 and a selected one from previous years. It is a collection of selected illustrations created over almost the last 10 years. From year to year, the slogans, the themes of the illustrations change. For 2025, Ewa Gutmańska-Gralak of Ewenement has prepared the slogan KOTCEPCJA (CATCEPTION). Previous slogans for the works were: There is no place like a box/home. Peace. A cat with a passion. A cat in the company of plants. A selected cat from the foundation.
Above all, the cat-drawings are designed to evoke emotion, to entertain and to surprise.
The opening of the poster exhibition “Kotcepcja – kotorysunki” is on October 4th, when World Animal Day is celebrated.
