Miłosz Matwijewicz is a landscape painter using watercolours and oil paints. He rarely paints other subjects. He paints flowers, still lives, but it’s the landscape that inspires him the most. A landscape with water is his main theme. The expanse of sky, a green strip, shining surface of water are a certain scheme repeated in almost all compositions. The author processes, transforms such a structure. These are peculiar variations on a given topic. The composition is unchanged, but it is always a different landscape, a different area, a different place. Colour is important. It builds the atmosphere and mood of each work. With a spot of colour, the author brings out shapes, defines the space, suggests light. He uses a specific colour, based mostly on shades of blue and green. Color tone is always cool, sometimes only enriched with yellows, small patches of cinnabar and red.
Miłosz Matwijewicz creates mainly realistic compositions where details are not important. The aura of the momoent is essential. He simplifies shapes in favour of patches of colours, but often loses them, shaping the image space in an abstract way.
The presented works were created in the years 1980 to 2000. The artist still paints, but wuth great difficulty. Progressing eye disease does not allow him to work hard.
