The Municipal Gallery bwa in Bydgoszcz announces an open call addressed to artists connected with Bydgoszcz. The goal is to select works for exhibitions in Port25-Raum für Gegenwartskunst in Mannheim and in the Municipal Gallery bwa in Bydgoszcz, scheduled for 30.07-05.09.2021 and 17.09-07.11.2021. Creators can submit works in any technique, created between 2017 and 2020. Submission of applications by 30.11.2020. The jury which will select the works is going to meet at the beginning of 2021. The jury selects works based on digital photographs attached to correct and complete applications.
The Municipal Gallery bwa in Bydgoszcz, in response to an invitation from Port 25-Raum für Gegenwartskunst in Mannheim, will co-produce the Harte Zeiten/Ciężkie Czasy project. The project is a part of the 30th anniversary of the partnership between the two cities.
Two exhibitions will be organised in parallel at PORT25-Raum für Gegenwartskunst Mannheim and at the bwa City Gallery in Bydgoszcz (30.07-05.09.2021). Then these exhibitions will change places of presentation – the exhibition shown in Mannheim will be transported and presented in Bydgoszcz, and the Bydgoszcz one will go to Germany (17.09-07.11.2021). A total of 20 artists (10 Polish and 10 German) will present their works in the project, and each of the exhibitions will show works by 5 artists from Poland and 5 from Germany.
The premise of this international project is – despite the extreme right-wing and autocratic tendencies of the current political development – to discover, through a dialogue of the creators from both countries, the freedom and democratic attitudes that support European and humanistic values. In particular through accompanying activities to exhibitions, which will include: symposiums, talks, workshops and meetings with artists in Poland and Germany. There will be a possibility to strengthen the established cooperation, which will create a new, permanent form of exchange and artistic development in the future.
The interpretation of the project subject may include autobiographical threads, illustrate the perception of the present uncertainty and brutality in society, the resulting dynamics and bipolarity, and ironically describe this present.
