Municipal Gallery bwa in Bydgoszcz and Czarny Karzeł Foundation invite you to the exhibition by Wojtek Radtke “WE THE WATER / MY WODA.” The exhibition is being held as part of the 10th edition of the Oko Nigdy Nie Śpi Kujawsko-Pomorskie festival.
A story about water and what it carries with it, its ability to respond, transmit and express. The emotions that water sprays evoke in the post-COVID era also play a significant role in the exhibition.
Wojtek Radtke’s projects are created at the intersection of different perspectives: art, design, and knowledge visualization. The We The Water / My woda exhibition is the result of a process that also combines elements drawn from different areas, from scientific experimentation to intuitive and conceptual exploration to aesthetically transparent form. The dependence of the physical existence of every living organism on water is the project’s starting point, but its real subject is the transgressive area of speculation that begins where the boundary of anthropocentric perception of matter lies. We The Water takes us to the human backyard to show us its key symbols: blood, sweat, tears, church (community) and money through the biological prism that distracts from everything.
The exhibition at the Municipal Gallery bwa features most of the works that were created as part of the series. One of them is Katedra (Cathedral), an installation in the form of two corridor-naves, each of which leads to a place of encounter with the Other. In one, we can inhale the foetal waters of an anonymous woman mixed with sterile fluid in the form of an aerosol, while in the other we can inhale the breath of the exhibition’s author. Both are in concentrations that do not exceed the concentration of secretions of co-users in common spaces such as streetcars, buses, waiting rooms or lecture halls.
What is transparent turns out to be saturated and what we encounter is not always what we are ready for.
