The initiator of the Visual Arts Competition for Bydgoszcz artists is Dr. Stefan Pastuszewski representing the Society for Cultural Initiatives in Bydgoszcz. Since 2011, the competition has been co-organized by the Municipal Gallery bwa in Bydgoszcz, and the exhibitions are presented in the space of the gallery at 3 Gdańska St. in Bydgoszcz.
This year’s competition was organized for the eleventh time. The themes of the previous ones: 2009 – The Yard at 62 Dworcowa St., 2010 – The Yard, 2011 – Bridges, 2012 – Inspired by Wyczółkowski, 2013 – Streets, 2014 – Home, 2015 – Us, 2016 – Neighbours, 2017 – Sources, 2018 – Freedom.
For this year’s competition, there were 83 works submitted — paintings, drawings, graphics, collages, sculptures, pottery and photographies by 44 artists from Bydgoszcz. The jury, composed of Prof. Aleksandra Simińska – chairwoman, Dr. Monika Kosteczko-Grajek, and Wojciech Woźniak, will evaluate the artistic values, composition structure and workshop quality of individual works. The jury will honour six artists with awards and distinctions. Since 2018, the awards have been funded by the President of Bydgoszcz.
