The Powroty 2 (Returns 2) by Zbigniew Gostomski is the first such comprehensive presentation of the artist’s work in Bydgoszcz, featuring works from the 1960s (from the series Przedmioty optyczne (Optical Objects)) as well as those created after 2000 (including the lightbox series DOM).
The exhibition includes several dozen objects from the National Museum in Warsaw, the Museum of Art in Łódź, the Leon Wyczółkowski Regional Museum in Bydgoszcz, the Mazovian Centre for Contemporary Art “Elektrownia” in Radom, the EL Gallery Art Centre in Elbląg, the Signum Foundation, the collection of Tomasz Ziętak and those owned by Barbara Gostomska.
Zbigniew Gostomski (1932- 2017) – painter, creator of artistic experiments, photographer, participant and creator of happenings, actor in Tadeusz Kantor’s theatre “Cricot 2,” co-founder of the Foksal gallery (together with critics: Wiesław Borowski, Anka Ptaszkowska, Mariusz Tchorek, and artists: Henryk Stażewski and Edward Krasiński). He was born in Bydgoszcz, where he studied at the City Visual Arts School (today’s Leon Wyczółkowski State Secondary School of Visual Arts). Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw at the Faculty of Painting (1953–1959) in the study of Prof. Michał Bylina. Between 1961 and 1962, he obtained a specialisation in the artistic tapestry studio under Mieczysław Szymański. From 1988 he was a professor at the Warsaw University. His works can be found in museums and private collections around the world.
